About WNY Children's Book Expo

WNY Children’s Book EXPO, Buffalo’s premier literary event for children, is composed of two parts: KidsLit Week, and EXPO Saturday.

WNY Children’s Book Expo grew from the spark of an idea by Monkey See, Monkey Do … Children’s Bookstore founders Kim Krug and Kathleen Skoog in 2014 to bring the wonder of books to children through the authors and illustrators themselves.  What started as a small Expo at Kleinhan’s Music Hall from 2015 – 2018 growing from 800+ to over 2,000 attendees in a short few years now hosts over 3,500 guests at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center through a collaboration with Read to Succeed Buffalo and Medaille College.

During KidsLit Week, internationally acclaimed authors will visit area schools, libraries, museums and other cultural venues. The visits, scheduled Monday through Friday, aim at inspiring a love of books in students grades pre-K through middle school. EXPO Saturday is a day-long showcase of new and beloved books written for kids. Here, authors interact directly with children through readings, book-signings, presentations and demonstrations.  To inquire about an author visit for your school, please contact Kim.

Educators too have a niche at EXPO Saturday. A NYS-approved 4-hour CTLE Workshop is held annually that features over a dozen authors/illustrators on a panel, who share their literary experiences with attendees. We hosted 125 educators in 2018 from across Upstate New York and Southern Ontario, Canada. The workshop was given excellent reviews, and will be held again in 2019.

In 2018, we anticipate selling out our CTLE program that runs before the Expo opens, as well as hosting over 3,500 guests.
